I moved to Croatia a couple of months ago and I’m learning lessons about how to do more by doing less.
A slower-paced lifestyle has given me space to explore creatively. I found that the always-on hustle of Los Angeles wasn’t letting me get to what was important creatively.
Living in a small village by the sea has let me do that. 🌊
Beach near my new place.
This is a version of what Cal Newport calls “Slow Productivity.”
In the book of the same name, Newport sayeth:
“Don’t rush your most important work. Allow it instead to unfold along a sustainable timeline, with variations in intensity, in settings conducive to brilliance.”
Don’t rush.
Give things time to unfold.
Change your settings.
Let the message and the work reveal itself and don’t let someone else’s schedule or hustle culture bullshit dictate the moves.
That’s where I am at today, writing from a coffee shop somewhere on an island for now.
The new podcast episode gets into details of this and holds some ideas that can help you, even if you don’t want to move halfway around the world.
